Finalmente, reuni com um conjunto de deputadas de Marrocos, analisando a situação das mulheres naquele país, as possibilidades de cooperação que o Conselho da Europa tem para oferecer neste domínio, e sobre as perspetivas de adesão à Convenção de Istambul, uma vez que esta entre em vigor. A parliamentarian’s commitment to combating violence against women: the power of words translated into action

Excellencies, Dear members of Parliament, Ladies and gentlemen, Distinguished participants,

I am honoured to be here with you today to give a testimony about my experience as a parliamentarian committed to combating violence against women and domestic violence.
It is the first time I participate in the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations in my capacity as general rapporteur on violence against women of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and I wish to thank the Inter-Parliamentary Union for this invitation. I am delighted that one entire day of discussions is dedicated to parliamentary strategies to combat violence against women and girls.
When I am asked why I have decided to invest in ending violence against women, and what situation or event has motivated me to champion the cause, I simply reply: Football!
